Device Entitlement Server Updated with Enhancements for Smartwatches and Android
Sicap updates its Device Entitlement Server to include support for Apple Watch pairing, enhance provisioning capabilities for Android smartphones, and introduce emergency address submission for VoWiFi. Now network and virtual operators can seamlessly activate the services on any Android smartphone connected to their network and increase profits in the smartwatch market.
Baar, Switzerland, 3rd December 2019: Sicap Schweiz AG, the global mobile device management vendor, announced today that its Device Entitlement Server (DES) solution had been enhanced with three cornerstone functionalities to strengthen company’s leadership in the global mobile device management market.
The first version of Sicap’s DES launched at the beginning of 2019, provided standards-compliant device provisioning for Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Video over LTE (ViLTE), Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi), and Rich Communication Services (RCS). With this new release, network and virtual operators can now also provision these services on Apple Watch devices and on Android smartphones, not supporting the GSMA RCC.14/15 standards. Additionally, the emergency address (911/112) submission for VoWiFi calls is now enabled.
According to Olivier Engel, Vice President, Research and Development at Sicap, the updated DES now enables service providers to better adapt to the changing device landscape. “Smartwatches are the fastest growing device segment today. However, the best strategy for operators to profit in this space is to provision the watches as smartphone companion devices for their subscribers. Our DES now allows them to do just that,” Engel explains and continues, “not all Android devices include proper support for the RCC.14/15 standard, which has created a headache for the operators. Our new Android Carrier Configuration application makes the Android provisioning problems a thing of the past. Now, any Android device connected on a mobile network can be seamlessly authenticated and entitled to VoLTE, ViLTE, VoWiFi, and RCS services”, Engel concludes.
