USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) is the ideal channel for value-added services and customer self-care services. Sicap USSD Menu Browser (UMB) enables fast implementation of new services by configuring the menu on the server side. For the customer, USSD menu services are simple and free of charge. The service code is stored in the SIM card (ADN) or can be sent by V-card for example so that users have direct access from their contacts list.
UMB is typically used to handle customer requests for :
UMB could also be used to set up a customer care helpline. Simple menu choices such as "press one to update your service options, press two for billing queries" could trigger a connection with the appropriate customer care agent or send back a "try again" message if all the lines are busy.
Sigtran signalling over IP can take away many of the limitations which exist in traditional SS7 signalling. Sigtran implementations by Sicap in operator networks open up new perspectives for USSD performance, with increased USSD capacity. Web-based transmission means that UMB platforms can be installed and run from any location. Centralized UMB systems can be used for cross-network USSD services within operator groups, or hosted by Sicap at a remote location for service delivery in ASP mode.
