OTA updates on mobile devices for lifecycle management and troubleshooting

Through its user-friendly interface, Sicap Device Management Center (DMC) enables an operator to read the "vital statistics" of customer devices.Instant access to multimedia services implies automatic provisioning of settings and real time service activation according to subscriber service preferences. Operators can provide users a seamless "off the shelf/ready to use" experience for data-centric services by automatically detecting the type of handset and remotely configuring all its features according to past profile knowledge and stored subscriber personal data.Software versions can be deleted, added or updated for effective device lifecycle management Back-up and Restore / Wipe and lock services can prevent data loss on customer terminal. The Sicap platform helps operators increase customer satisfaction and loyalty by providing automatic back up of subscriber phonebook information on not only the SIM card but also on the device itself. When changing handsets, personal data stored externally should be available for copy onto the new device. All purchased VAS settings must be easily and quickly restored and menu browsers configured the way customers really want to see them.

As an active member of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), Sicap is taking the lead in new Application software and system software provisioning. The Sicap DMC roadmap includes  features such as remote checks of applications on the device, remote reading of software versions and their subsequent updating with OTA files on compatible devices. Similarly, Interoperability between the radio access network and devices has become difficult to achieve. Network operations and upgrades may affect the performance of devices already commercialised to the subscriber base, just as device service features may interfere with the radio access settings of network elements, depending on regional implementations. Sicap believes that a FOTA solution is the answer for operators and their handset vendor partners. Firmware updates avoid device recalls and costly network fallbacks. Troublesome devices can be identified by TAC code using network probes. From that point, batch deliveries of firmware updates for network interoperability management are sent using DMC. It enables Customer Care to check firmware versions installed on individual devices. Individual updates can be sent and tracked for on-going customer care and remote service comparable to that offered to PC users.
